The Wisdom of Love

Over and over again, we pass through the trials of life looking for soft places to lay our weary heads, without once stopping to ask if the difficulty is the softest place to land.

Perhaps this cavern, just beneath our deepest longing, is indeed the most loving place to be.

There you are,
in the bottom of a well,
slumped to the ground,
back against the wall,
in the darkness,
looking up to the light of what you thought wanted…
what you thought you needed.

While you sit,
back against the wall,
looking towards your desire,
the light sky turns to dusk,
dusk turns to twilight,
the moon gives way to dawn again,
and you wonder if ever you’ll be able to touch the sun kissed sky.

There’s no need to wonder,
No need to cry
because this dark place is keeping you,
holding you,
safely from beasts that lurk at the mouth of the well
waiting to eat you alive.

This is the wisdom of Love.
Never failing to keep from harm those whom it holds most dear.

Soon those beasts that seek to harm you,
will starve waiting for your faith to wane,
or be devoured by predators,
greater than themselves.

So worry not, tender heart.
You are not alone.
Life just has a way of making too quick turns.

Your hardest places are simply the best Love could do on such short notice.
